Raw food Retreat on Tobago, Caribbean

1-week Caribbean Raw Food Retreat 18 June 2014 £1,200.00

Raw plant-based food is rapidly gaining popularity across the world as people recognise and experience the power of nutrient-dense, alkalising foods that can put your body into peak performance. Even conventional nutritionists now agree that eating a diet with a high raw content is beneficial to your health, and we all know about the '5-a-day' rule, that's recently been increased to 7-a-day! Also called 'living foods', raw food uses plants in an uncooked state, which retains their natural good enzymes to help our bodies process and assimilate nutrients fully. Raw foods generally contain more micro nutrients and phytonutrients than cooked foods. The results are a better functioning digestive system, a happier body, more energy, weight balance and an ongoing natural detox effect.

This holiday retreat is for you if you:

want a holiday where you can not just soak in the sun but also eat clean, fresh and healthy food.

want a holiday that leaves you feeling radiant.

want a holiday where you can lose weight rather than gain it.

want to enjoy a paradise location in the company of like-minded people and have fun!

What are you waiting for! Whether you're a couple or single, this is THE holiday for you.

18-25 June 2014

Holiday and retreats are an excellent way to try out a new way of life and eating. So what better way than to spend a week on a glorious Caribbean island to explore the beauty and flavours of raw foods, learn recipes that can be easily integrated into your busy life and practise some more advanced skills of enhancing raw foods to culinary heights. mango smoothies in the Castara Retreats Restaurant bar If you're new to raw food this is a wonderful opportunity to experience how raw food can give you more energy, help you lose weight, naturally detox and make you feel radiant. For those already living a raw food life style, the week is an ideal way to spend a holiday in the Caribbean whilst being served daily, delicious, nutritious meals and learn some new tricks of the trade. Although free of any animal products and starchy carbohydrates, raw food is not a restrictive diet but rather a lifestyle of eating the most delicious foods without the experience of guilt and 'paying for overindulgence'.

About Castara Retreats

I have been to Tobago three times in the last 10 years and have always stayed at Castara Retreats. Castara Retreats is a small, family owned eco resort superbly located overlooking the Bay of Castara, with stunning views of the Caribbean coast and mountains. The setting is simply a dream and the accommodation is extremely comfortable.

Visit http://www.castararetreat.com/ for more info and to see the accommodation. For the past five years it has been consistently rated on Trip Advisor as the best holiday rental accommodation on the whole of Trinidad and Tobago. The restaurant opened in December 2012 and has quickly ranked on My Tobago and Trip Advisor as one of the best restaurants on the island, with a reputation for fresh, locally sourced ingredients, wonderful ambience and friendly service. During the retreat we will partially take over the kitchen to prepare raw meals each day, but you will still be able to enjoy the attention of the restaurant staff during lunch and dinner. To find out more about Tobago, visit My Tobago, where you can read a wealth of in depth information on the island, its people, and services.

“Limin', or hanging out, is an acquired skill best learned on the island that has elevated it to a true art form: Tobago. Once you get the hang of it, head for Tobago's fabled northwest coast, passing hillside hamlets with fairy tale names - Harmony Hall, Providence, Whim - to reach the quiet beaches of Castara, Charlotteville, and Parlatuvier, traditional places where you can still lend a hand by helping villagers tug their seine nets onto the sand in return for a  share of the catch. Village guesthouses and small hotels are integrated into community life, like the eco-sensitive Castara Retreats, a six-cabin aerie overlooking village and sea, and backed by the island's most precious resource: the Tobago Rainforest Reserve. "It's the oldest legally protected rainforest in the Western Hemisphere, established in 1776 to protect the sugar plantation watershed," says guide and local ornithologist David Rooks.

The island's primordial bounty allows for prolific bird watching, plunging into refreshing waterfalls, and snorkelling over the largest brain coral colony in the world.” National Geographic Magazine.

Costs of Retreat and Flight

The fee for the week is £1150 for seven nights in shared accommodation (twin or double room), all meals, three excursions, airport transfers between Scarborough Airport and Castara Retreats for the Wednesday Monarch flight from the UK, as well as the raw food classes. There will be clean drinking water served at all meals and you can also buy non-alcoholic & alcoholic cocktails, fresh juices, smoothies, wine and beer from the bar.

The flight ticket is additional and you will need to arrange your flight yourself. For guests from the UK we have arranged a special deal with Golden Holidays, who are the agent for the weekly Monarch Airline flight on Wednesdays. Golden Holidays have offered a slightly discounted economy seat for £422 for the direct return flight from London Gatwick to Scaraborough, Tobago.

For information on flights from other countries or with other airlines, please visit the visitor information page on the Castara Retreats website.

The Accommodation

All accommodations are built to the highest standards and are set right above Castara beach in lush tropical gardens. The seven lodges and apartments are specially designed to create open, spacious living areas that allow uninterrupted views of the beach and rainforest, cool sea breezes and the natural sights and sounds of the ocean, rainforest and village. Each lodge has a kitchen and one or more bathrooms. They are designed in classic Haiku style to "allow man and nature to live in mutual respect". The philosophy at Castara Retreats is to reflect principles of beauty, balance and respect and the owners of Castara Retreat endeavour to reflect these aspirations in their buildings, the gardens, in the relationships with the people they work with, and with their guests. This is why I feel it is an ideal location for nurturing not only your body but also your soul.

“Overlooking Castara Bay, the lodges of Castara Retreats combine simplicity with luxurious touches...each one angled to make the most of the spectacular views. This is as good as it gets…We loved it.” Lead feature in The Telegraph Magazine; Feb 2012 by Edmund de Waal.
